The Most Sacred Sikh pilgrim place in Pakistan under attack

Nankana Sahib Gurudwara (Sikh temple/shrine), the holiest and most sacred pilgrim site for the Sikh community, was attacked by Islamist on Friday, January 3rd. The mob led by Mohammad Hassan attacked the holy shrine and pelted stones while there were about 30 Sikhs trapped inside the shrine.

Hassan and his counterparts chanted Islamic slogans “we won’t allow any Sikh and their shrines to exist in Nankana sahib and will rename it to ‘Ghulam-e-Mustafa’ (Islamic name) he also added they will break down the Sikh shrine and build a mosque. His speech was applauded by his supporters by screaming Islamic slogans.

Hassan also made threats to Sikhs by saying “I am the son of Muslim and I am coming for you” Hassan and is family is was allegedly involved in kidnapping a Sikh girl ‘Jagjit Kaur’ daughter of one of the Shrine’s priest and she was converted to Islam. Which triggered an outrage in the Sikh community in Pakistan.

This shrine is located in Nankana Sahib city and capital of Nankana Sahib District in Punjab province of Pakistan and is the holiest place for Sikhs.

The Kartarpur corridor between India and Pakistan was recently opened as Pakistan’s ‘goodwill gesture’ towards the Sikh community. This allows Sikh pilgrims from India to visit the holy shrine of Nankana Sahib in Pakistan without a visa. But this was also looked at as mischief played by Pakistan to use sneaky tricks and to steer tensions and terror activities in India.

On 26 November 2018, the foundation stone was laid down on the Indian side; two days later, on 28 November 2018, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan did the same for the Pakistani side. The corridor was completed for the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak on 12 November 2019. Apparently the show of “Love for Sikh community” ended within less than three months.

Attacks on Hindu, Sikhs and other minorities in Pakistan and Bangladesh is an ongoing genocide neglected by the United Nations and the rest of the world.
